Just as Pokemon fans are already feeling the love with the recent release of Pokemon Platinum for DS, Pokemon USA has announced its schedule for six U.S. competitions for the 2009 Pokemon Video Game Championships (VGC).

The competition lets players find new challenges against fellow fans and ultimately to discover the best and brightest trainers on the planet. This year's competition starts on May 9th in Seattle, Washington and ends on June 27th in St. Louis, Missouri. At each event, 128 randomly selected registrants in each of the two age divisions (Juniors and Seniors) will walk away with a rare level 50 Shiny Milotic.

Top trainers will head to the Pokemon VGC World Championships on August 14 and 15 in San Diego, California to face off against their international rivals to determine 2009's champion.

Of course, each participant must bring their own DS or DSi with a copy of Pokemon Platinum to compete in a 2-on-2 Double Cup format and won't be allowed to use a Pokemon above level 50.
