Sony today revealed that it had been ordered to pay an additional ¥27.9 billion ($240 million) in taxes. This was due to transactions Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. had between the U.S. and Japan. These transactions reportedly equaled an extra ¥74.4 billion ($639 million) in income.

For its part, Sony disagrees with the ruling, but is willing to pay the extra taxes. The company will discuss the matter with both the U.S. and Japanese governments to avoid double taxation. The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau has recently been focusing on large Japanese conglomerates, with Takeda Pharmaceutical and Mazda also being asked to pay more.
