IGN today posted an interview with id luminary and programming guru John Carmack. Most of the questions of the interview focus mostly on Orcs & Elves, shipping next week for DS. Carmack confirmed the fact that he wrote the 3D code for the game in just four days and that it was "probably the most fun platform that I have personally worked on."

Carmack lavished praise onto the two screened portable system, saying, "It is a shame that homebrew development can't be officially sanctioned and supported, because it would be a wonderful platform for a modern generation of programmers to be able to get a real feel for low level design work, to be contrasted with the high level web and application work that so many entry level people start with."

"I do think that mobile platforms will play an increasingly important role," he went on to comment about the future of gaming. "There are vastly more mobile phones in the world than there are game consoles, the hardware capabilities are now quite strong, and connectivity is intrinsic. There is still a large issue with poor user input characteristics and widely scattered implementation quality, but I am hopeful that will be improving over the next few years."

The full interview with Carmack can be read here. GameDaily BIZ also has its own interview with Carmack in the pipeline, so stay tuned for that.
