Officials for Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ) today confirmed that the company is introducing a budget lineup of games for the PS3 (similar to the PS2's "Greatest Hits") called "PlayStation 3 The Best." The first five titles to go on sale for 3,800 yen (including tax) on March 19 will be Folklore, Resistance: Fall of Man, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Mobile Suit Gundam: Target in Sight and Ridge Racer 7.

In addition, SCEJ announced that the 40GB model of the PS3 would soon be receiving a new paint job: Satin Silver. The new color will become available on March 6 for 39,980 yen (including tax), and Sony also will produce Satin Silver DualShock 3 controllers for sale separately at the recommended retail price of 5,500 yen (including tax). This is now the second color, following Ceramic White, that Japanese PS3 fans will be able to choose from, while U.S. gamers are still stuck with black PS3s.

There's been no word yet on whether a "Greatest Hits" lineup or a Silver PS3 is headed to America, but it's likely just a matter of time.
