The game was a hit with critics, although it didn't quite sell as well as the company had hoped. Since that time, NiGHTS has made cameo appearances in games such as Sonic Adventure and Sonic Pinball Party. However, Sega finally answered the prayers of long-time fans by giving them the sequel they desire. NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams takes flight this fall on the Nintendo Wii.

The story revolves around two kids, Will and Helen, who have a lot of real-world problems. So how do they deal with these hassles? Sleep on it, of course. They travel to a place called Nightopia, where NiGHTS resides as local guardian of the dreamscape. However, evil beings called the Nightmarens pose a threat to Nightopia, as well as the kids visiting it.

Sega was gracious enough to give GameDaily a glimpse of the game in action. Although they didn't allow any hands-on time, they did show off how the Wii controls work. Players needn't worry about complex hand motions with the Wii remote, only specific movement with the Nunchuk's analog stick. Players guide NiGHTS through each level as he flies around, floating through a series of rings and defeating enemies in a rather peculiar fashion. Rather than bop them out of the sky, he must hold onto them and perform a complete circular motion to make them disappear. The game involves plenty of strategy, with gems picked up throughout each level and special bonus sections to ramp up the points.

Sega divides Nightopia into a series of stages. Completing them earns letter grades. A "C" grade comes across as acceptable, although more experienced players will definitely want to go for "A" grades to unlock new content (not yet specified -- but it'll probably be on the same level as what was offered in the bonus Christmas NiGHTS disc for Saturn).
