Electronic Arts adds to its stellar 2007 sports lineup with NHL 08, a fun hockey game designed for players of all skill levels. Simplistic controls let you control skating and shooting with both analog sticks, adjusting the speed of your player with the left while making shots with the right. This year, however, EA revamped the skating engine, allowing you to deke your opponents instead of always just running into them. You'll need the fancy moves, thanks to punishing artificial intelligence that make dynamic adjustments depending on your play style. In addition, the announcers give helpful advice, and a create-a-play feature lets you practice plays before battling your next opponent. We dislike the PlayStation 3's choppy frame rate (the Xbox 360 version moves faster), but overall, EA delivers an addictive game of hockey that'll keep you entertained for months.
