NFL Street may be a thing of the past, but NFL Tour is more than capable of filling the need for over-the-top, arcade-style football. The upcoming seven-on-seven football game features a single player tour where players create oversized characters from scratch and travel to games across the country to achieve the much coveted NFL contract. Players will be able to customize their characters' appearance and choose a position, which automatically determines how many points go into attributes like speed and catching.
Much of the game will focus on muscling through defensive lines without losing too much speed. Encounters frequently occur where runners have a chance to reverse a tackle, giving the tackler an opportunity to reverse the reversal. Time slows down during these tackle encounters, and learning to successfully pull off the reversals could mean the difference between victory and loss. Additionally, players will have a smash meter located on the bottom of the screen that, when full, allows gamers to execute a special defensive ability. The smash-move ability will remove a play from the offensive team, and players can expect to get about five smash-move plays per game.
Players taking a break from the Tour mode can jump right into the exhibition matches, which let players set up their own rules and scoring. With "make it, take it" rules, the player that scores the touchdown automatically gets the ball back. Additionally, players can give point values to moves such as interceptions and completing passes for some big scores. Finally, NFL Tour can be taken online for head-to-head action, and players can take advantage of minigames like "kill the man with the ball."
NFL Tour will retain the over-the-top animations, exaggerated players from NFL teams and plenty of opportunities to clobber the opposition. Look for our review next week.
