Evaluate the "increasingly global nature of the interactive entertainment industry"
by David Radd on Thursday, August 31, 2006
Evergreen Events today announced the details for the Global Games Summit (GGS). It will focus on the expanding importance of certain nascent game markets, such as India, China, and Brazil. GGS will take place from May 7 - 9, 2007 at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in downtown Seattle. The summit will finish with a charity golf tournament benefiting Child's Play.
"It's becoming clear that a global perspective is increasingly important for the interactive entertainment industry as traditional distribution gives way to a more online-centric approach," commented James Hursthouse, CEO of Online Game Services, and the Global Games Summit Advisory Board Chair. "The 2007 Global Games Summit will address the trend towards globalization head on, helping game companies define their roles on the worldwide stage, and establish business relationships with companies from an ever-increasing number of important game markets."
"GGS represents a terrific opportunity to talk about the challenges of the global marketplace and present new alternatives for the games industry," offers Emiliano de Castro, Vice-President of Institutional Relations, Abragames. "I expect this event will be a perfect place to showcase new players and potential partners from emerging markets to industry leaders."
"The overall games market is not only growing rapidly but has become a truly global industry," pointed out David Cole, President of DFC Intelligence. "For example, the worldwide games market as of 2005 had revenue of $29 billion, while the North American share was $12 billion of that. By 2011 we forecast the global marketplace will have ballooned to $44 billion, with $26 billion coming from outside North America. Clearly, the market outside the United States represents an enormous opportunity to prepared, well-informed game developers, publishers and other interests in that revenue stream."
