It won't be too long now before we see college football return for yet another glorious season on television. Now gamers can prep themselves with their own little tale of the Heisman with the release of NCAA Football 06, the latest in the ongoing brand from EA Sports. It may be the only college football game on the market this year, but it's thankfully a very good one, and a must-play for fans of the sport.
The game features various modes to choose from, including a career-style mode that's basically a race for the Heisman trophy. You start out with a minor athlete who's going through the rounds, running practice drills and eventually getting the attention of teams across the country. This mode is very deep and allows you to really see how a college athlete works his skills to become someone memorable.
The general gameplay is about the same as previous editions, but remains as tight and concentrated as it's always been. You can run different plays with passes and runners, pulling off juke plays and amazing catches left and right. Defensive moves are still focused on as well, so you can get in your sacks and interceptions. The presentation is wonderful, with revamped graphics that look better than they've ever been thanks to a wider view of the field. The sound, however, still needs slight work, as the commentary team grows repetitive.
Throw in multiplayer extras, Xbox Live support, and hours of play that can make you college material, and there's no doubt that this is one of the better football games to snag this year. Time for kick off!
