Knicks fans love Nate Robinson. The energetic point guard receives plenty of applause when he steps onto the court and for good reason. Despite standing just five feet, nine inches tall, he manages to dunk on some of the NBA's giants, including Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard at this year's All-Star Slam Dunk Contest.
Off the court, Nate digs NBA 2K10 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. We met up with him at a recent 2K Sports party, where he talked games, Xbox Live and working out.
What impresses you about NBA 2K10?
Oh man. It's just exciting. Every time one of these games comes out it's exciting. 2K Sports comes up with different ways to enhance it. It looks better, you can bump into referees. It's getting more realistic.
What other games do you enjoy?
I only have three games in the rotation. This game, Madden and Call of Duty.
We played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 last week.
I'm jealous. I can't even do this interview. I can't wait.
Are you buying the night vision goggles?
All that. Whatever comes out for Call of Duty, I'm getting. I hope they have Capture the Flag.
You can dual wield now.
No way! Two guns? That's awesome.
So we're big Knicks fans and we saw you do the salute on the court. How did that start?
It started because one of my friends, one of the best Madden players in the world, is also one of the best Call of Duty players as well. At first, he didn't believe I was Nate Robinson. He said, if you're Nate Robinson, get me tickets to the Lakers game. So I said, all right. Give me your real name and I'll have two tickets. So we're playing the game and we become good friends online. Before I went to LA, I told him that he'd have his tickets. We exchanged numbers, and after the game, I had a jersey for him and another guy. I walked up to him and he was like "I didn't know it was really you."
What did you do this summer to improve your game?
I worked on everything. A lot of running and I lost five to six pounds.
Cool. Good luck getting the Knicks to the playoffs this year. Take care.
