Variety is reporting that Ed Boon, co-creator and current lead designer for the Mortal Kombat franchise, is set to receive $900,000 because Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe made its sales estimates. Boon is also apparently owed $105,000 from revenue generated by other properties in the Mortal Kombat franchise during the last half of 2008.
Neither Boon nor the Mortal Kombat franchise are mentioned explicitly in the Midway bankruptcy filings uncovered by Variety, but the mentions of a "key designer" that is "responsible for historically the Debtors' most successful video game series" that will see a Q4 2009 release implicate both heavily.
Midway is seeking approval from the bankruptcy court to pay Boon's promised bonuses in order to retain him. The company believes keeping Boon is vital in order to maintain the worth of the Mortal Kombat franchise in order to auction off the IP and pay its debtors.
Thanks to Joystiq for the tip.

Give him the money! At this point, the Boon boys ARE Midway.
