When gamers think PlayStation 3, God of War III and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves probably appear in their heads. We'd like to offer one more, ModNation Racers. Exclusive to Sony's console and part of the company's Play, Create and Share genre, this exciting kart racer moves quicker than Mario Kart, will be available via PlayStation Network in 2010 and most importantly, comes with a robust Track Studio that lets you dream up your own tracks, race and share them online with what should be a thriving community.

ModNation Racers is all about customization. You're free to create your own avatar (outfitting him, her or it with a variety of clothes and various accessories), slap decals/paint on your vehicle of choice and then unleash your imagination with the track editor. Although we didn't get our hands on it, it appears simple to use and rich with possibilities. You're able to not only lay tracks, but also plant forests, drop houses onto the environment, add mountains, a body of water (you can even adjust the water levels) and throw dirt all over the place. It was designed in such a way that you can make a track in five minutes or less (though you're free to spend hours designing one or more) and as soon as you finish it, you can give it a test run. In addition, you can enjoy pre-made characters, vehicles and tracks, designed by developer United Front Games, as well as a single player campaign where you rise through the racing circuit.

What makes this even sweeter is the ability to upload your creations online and download other players', as well as compete against up to 12 people (two offline via split screen). And like Mario Kart, you can terrorize your foes with various weapons, including rockets.

Unlike Nintendo's kart racer, however, ModNation Racers moves at lightning speeds. You'll definitely need to keep your eyes on the road as you careen around turns and dodge enemy fire.

It all amounts to one heck of a video game as well as one of Sony's most impressive offerings (take that, Heavy Rain). The only downside? You won't play it till 2010. In the meantime, come up with some track designs and check out screens of this exciting and potentially excellent racer.
