Both Activision and Infinity Ward have come under fire for various scenes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. In particular, the "No Russian" mission has drawn plenty of criticism and for good reason. This jarring level pairs your American character with a Russian terrorist and his cronies, who proceed to calmly walk into a Russian airport and slaughter hundreds of terrified passengers. As the helpless civilians clutch their stomachs and slowly crawl along the floor, the attackers waste no time putting bullets in their heads. Later, they turn their attention to police, gunning them down before making a quick escape.

While controversial, Modern Warfare 2 isn't the first game that allows players to rumble in or around an airport. While not as graphic as "No Russian", these games let you cause plenty of carnage.

Saints Row 2

While playing THQ's crude looking crime simulator, be sure to stop by the Stilwater airport, where you can not only crash planes into buildings, but also go inside the terminals and apparently go on a chainsaw-wielding rampage. Hey, the guys in "No Russian" mean business, but we'd like to think that some whacko cutting people would be just as terrifying.

Grand Theft Auto IV

GTA IV's fictional Liberty City also has an airport, and you're free to drive onto the runway, ruthlessly murder those nice folks who handle everyone's bags and lead the police on a wild chase, effortlessly weaving around massive planes. Sounds like something that would raise the security threat level past orange.

Tekken 4

As you travel the globe beating up fellow brawlers, you'll probably make a pit stop at Tekken 4's airport stage. No one, aside from the two combatants, gets injured, but you still smack the crap out of your opponent (or vice versa) as a small crowd looks on. What kind if airport allows this sort of thing to happen, anyway? The TSA must be on strike.

Left 4 Dead

Although scores of folks die in Modern Warfare 2, the body count doesn't come close to matching the airport scene in Valve's Left 4 Dead. Sure, they're all zombies and there's no one else defending the place, but you still get to kill hundreds of people. Well...what used to be people, anyway.

Resident Evil Degeneration

While at the airport, we never expect a plane to crash through a window as we enjoy a bag of Skittles from Hudson News, but that's what happens in Resident Evil Degeneration. A plane carrying infected passengers deposits its cargo, spreading the dreaded virus that transforms everyday citizens into flesh hungry monsters. As expected, it becomes your mission to infiltrate the airport and put bullets in their heads.

Army of Two

Electronic Arts' co-op shooter lets you unload weapons in an airport, but without Modern Warfare 2 style anarchy. Instead, you work together to shooter bad guys who fire back. That makes their deaths perfectly justified.

Rabbids

Finally, we'll leave you with airport carnage of a different kind. It's horrifying in its own little way.
