Right now, there are thousands of impatient gamers desperately waiting for the clock to strike midnight so they can flood stores to purchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Actually, you're probably one of them, and we can't blame you. Activision's supposed "biggest game of 2009" is one of the best and most intense first person shooters we've played, and there's a good possibility that Xbox Live will take a huge hit tomorrow, no thanks to the multiplayer overload.
At this point, there's no stopping the Modern Warfare 2 hype train, not with commercials on TV, numerous websites covering it like mad and cans of Call of Duty Monster chilling in refrigerators across the country. This game will be huge, but not universally popular. It might be tough to imagine, but somewhere (in this crazy world), there are a few people who don't have plans to buy the biggest war game of all time, and it has nothing to do with them being addicted to FarmVille.
You may not purchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 if...
You're 100 percent Russian and proud of your homeland, that being Russia
We'll refrain from spoiling the bigger pieces of the story, but by now, almost every gamer has seen the controversial footage of a Russian terrorist (and his cohorts, including you, an American character) shoot up a Russian airport and kill hundreds of presumably innocent civilians. There's obviously more to the narrative that puts things in a greater perspective, but if you love mother Russia, you might question why Activision and Infinity Ward decided to pick on your post Cold War country, especially with bigger real world fish to fry. That's the thanks you get for Maria Sharapova and Anna Kournikova, both of whom look significantly better than Modern Warfare 2.
You despise the United States of America
Let's face it, as much we love the good old U.S.A., plenty of foreigners have nothing but bad things to say about it. If you fall into that category, rest assured that Modern Warfare 2 won't make you exchange your country's flag for the red, white and blue. There are more than enough G.I. Joe inspired cut scenes to make your blood boil. In the game, America takes some lumps (you'll need to play to find out, or read spoilers), but even they may not be enough to convince you to experience the single player campaign. In other news, you should give us yanks a second chance. Let's go out for guacamole and margaritas.
You're a PC gamer
Numerous PC owners had an atomic meltdown when Infinity Ward nixed dedicated servers from Modern Warfare 2 while implementing a match making system similar to the one found on consoles, thus eliminating the chance for users to design mods and new maps. Then the developers announced that the PC version supports the same player cap (nine versus nine) per match. That inspired thousands of angry gamers to launch online petitions, and we're not talking small time stuff. One of these petitions has well over 100,000 signatures.
Although we sort of understand why PC gamers are mad, they shouldn't miss out on such a great experience.
You hate the first Modern Warfare
Hey, maybe you dislike the Call of Duty franchise, especially the original Modern Warfare. Good luck explaining why, but to each his (or her) own. Besides, there are plenty of other games out there, including Borderlands, The Ballad of Gay Tony and Dragon Age: Origins.

Well I am one of those gamers that has decided to not buy this game. I for one am tired of COD and I think after COD 3 it went downhill. Yeah Modern Warfare was fun, yeah killing zombie nazis produced good laughs, but honestly I think IW and Treyarch need to take the game back to its roots. I dont want a 4 hour single player campaign that is simply just a digital injection of Adrenaline. I want a wholesome experience that can last for upwards of 12 hours minimum. Games these days can and should be so much more than just a spiffy arcade game. I am disappointed in Modern Warfare 2 because its something I expect to see in an arcade, not on a home console. The game needs to return to its roots. Take away the ranking and the perks and all that stupid stuff. Infinity Ward, you need to crank out a solid game that will last a long time and really leave a resounding impact on the people who play it. Not a rehashed Modern Warfare with a spruced up coop mode. This game is not call of duty. its james bond with out the main character. thats not what Call of Duty used to be like. Call of Duty was a solid story that lasted and that took some amount of skill. This game now requires no skill and fails to raise the bar. In fact I believe the bar has now been lowered.
