Japanese publisher Konami today announced that it's forecasting a pretty sizable jump in net income for its first half of the 2009 fiscal year. When the company releases its earnings next week, it's expecting profits to climb nearly 88 percent year-over-year to 11.8 billion yen (around $120 million).
Sales are expected to climb 9.8 percent to 146.9 billion yen (about $1.5 billion). Konami also forecast operating income to increase 74.8 percent to 22.8 billion yen. The publisher attributed the impressive numbers mostly to its launch of the blockbuster PS3 title Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, which has shipped over three million copies worldwide since it launched in June. Konami also cited "steady sales" of other home video game products and noted that "sales of our products for arcades and card game products have also been strong."
Despite the very positive projected first half, Konami is not changing its full-year earnings forecast. Konami's fiscal year 2009, ending on March 31, is expected to generate 330 billion yen in revenues and 26 billion yen in net income.
