Electronic Arts' award-winning Medal of Honor series takes to the skies in the upcoming Medal of Honor: Airborne. Players assume the role of an Allied paratrooper dropped behind enemy lines in the European Theatre. Every mission begins with jumping from a crammed airplane, then directing the parachute to the best possible landing spot. In addition, players will also enjoy non-linear missions offer different ways for players to choose how to tackle objectives.

Where the player lands dynamically changes how the mission plays out. Missions contain a dozen objectives, but players determine their own approach for each challenge. While computer controlled players land in pre-designated drop zones, gamers can land anywhere. However, landing in an isolated spot surrounded by Nazis might not be the best option. Pull the chute too late and the character hits the ground hard and requires time to get oriented and get out of the gear. Conversely, perfect landings reward players ready for action upon touchdown.

Airborne raises the bar for shooters by removing pre-scripted scenes. In order to deal with the open-ended, non-scripted game play, the artificial intelligence now takes full advantage of the game's surroundings. Imagine intense sequences where foes use alleyways to trap players or seek cover behind the nearest object. AI characters will also flee the area whenever players throw grenades. Furthermore, Airborne's main focucs changes to territorial control. The player and computer-controlled allies need to battle and hold strategic positions while the enemy works in real-time to fight back and reclaim territory. Although there won't be infinite hordes of enemies rushing out, taking control of territory slows the rate at which reinforcements arrive.

There will be five campaigns and two characters to play: a pathfinder charged with marking drop zones for the main paratrooper force and a paratrooper. Furthermore, open-ended game play won't end with drop placement. Players have the opportunity to customize their weapons the same way soldiers did in WWII, and the modifications remain permanent throughout the game. Weapon upgrades can be found in the field, but can't be used immediately. As players gain proficiency with each weapon through use, they'll apply modifications after achieving a specific proficiency level.

Using a modified version of the Unreal 3 engine guarantees that Medal of Honor: Airborne will be one of the best-looking games in the series. So all those who thought there wasn't any WWII battleground left to cover; get ready to take a jump.
