Citing local paper, the Straits Times, Reuters is reporting that the sale of BioWare's much anticipated role-playing game for Xbox 360 Mass Effect has been banned in Singapore. The country's Media Development Authority issued this decree based upon the fact that the game contains a scene with an alien female and a human woman romantically entwined. Singapore, a country of strict conservative values, recently renewed a ban on male homosexual intercourse.

The article goes on to report that Mass Effect is the first Microsoft published video game to be banned in Singapore and that the city-state is the only country to have banned the game so far. Local gamers have protested the action, believing it unnecessarily harsh. Singapore's Media Development Authority has also banned God of War 2 and The Darkness in the past year.
