With well over two million copies sold, EA Sports' Madden NFL 09 is certainly one of the best-selling titles of the year. Now EA is looking to leverage the success of the Madden franchise (which has sold 70 million in its lifetime) to aid in the fight against breast cancer.
Today, EA Sports announced a special version of the latest Madden called Madden NFL 09 Pink. The game will be available at retail exclusively through Target during the month of October – to coincide with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Consumers can also purchase the game online through Target.com and NFLShop.com. Proceeds from the game, which features a special pink ribbon cover, will contribute to a donation to the Deanna Favre HOPE Foundation.
Deanna Favre, of course, is the wife of Madden NFL 09 cover athlete and NFL superstar Brett Favre. She founded the Deanna Favre HOPE Foundation after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 at the age of 35. Thankfully, she was able to overcome the disease and has since committed herself and the foundation to helping underserved and underinsured women who are afflicted with breast cancer.
"EA is honored to team up with Deanna Favre and Target in the fight against breast cancer," says senior product manager, Anthony Stevenson. "Almost everyone has been affected by this disease in some way, so we're eager to give our passionate fans an opportunity to participate in finding a cure."
Madden NFL 09 Pink will retail for $59.99 on Xbox 360 and the Wii "All Play" version will sell for $49.99. Interestingly, a PS3 version was not mentioned.
