Trivia, however, makes this game a must play. In this mode, four players compete to see whose brain contains the most NFL factoids, using only their remotes (EA assigned answers to up, down, left and right on the digital pad).

We also love Mini Camp, which lets you hone your football skills in various scenarios, such as throwing footballs through rings or kicking field goals against the wind. Earning points in these modes unlocks bronze, silver and gold trophies, which gives you bragging rights against your friends.

There's also Franchise Mode, where you have the opportunity to transform a team into a dynasty. And if that's not enough, you can always check out NFL Superstar Hall of Fame, where you (as a 2007 rookie or one you create), take a player from training camp through a hopefully successful NFL career, the goal to eventually make the Hall of Fame.

Party Mode (particularly Trivia) is a surprisingly fleshed-out and welcome addition.

The biggest feature, at least for Nintendo fans, is the online play. Now you can challenge anyone in the world, and obsess over the leader boards to see how you stack up against other players. As of this writing, we were unable to test it, as no one was online, but we applaud EA and Nintendo's decision to finally deliver online sports gaming to the masses.

Don't purchase Madden NFL 08 expecting beautiful visuals and slick looking menus. Buy it because you crave a more interactive experience as well as modes that you can't find in the other versions. With 22 mini games, trivia and fun controls, this gridiron giant runs the pigskin into the end zone.
