In an interview with Kikizo, various members of Media Molecule reflected on the development of LittleBigPlanet. The ex-Lionhead company staffers revealed that they were working on a project they describe as "more Portally than Portal... Portal, but with scale factor."
Media Molecule considered working with Valve on a title, but ultimately teamed with Sony to create LittleBigPlanet. "We were very tempted," said co-founder and technical director at Media Molecule Alex Evans. "But in the end we decided to talk to Sony and they just got the game at the beginning."
