Little Big Planet Public Beta Imminent (PS3)

This month, you might be able to stress test the PlayStation 3's cutest game.

by Libe Goad on Wednesday, September 03, 2008

A post on the official PlayStation message board says that a select few will soon be able to participate in the Little Big Planet Beta. There's no specific date other than "September" and no information on how to sign up just yet -- just "if it will be possible ... full information on how to do so will be made public in advance of the test."

The Media Molecule developer says the crew wants to test the LBP's sharing, uploading, downloading and multiplayer modes in the game -- and then launches into full CYA (cover your ass) mode explaining the purpose of a beta test. Knowing just how crazy certain gamers can be -- can't say we blame him.

Speaking of crazy, people thought we were crazy to call out Little Big Planet in a recent Games That Will Probably Suck article. While largely an opinion piece by our lovable in-house crank Chris Buffa, you still have to wonder how many user-created levels will be worth playing in the end. Sounds like the beta will give users a go at the DIY part of the game, so we will be curious to see if others have an easier time than we did with crafting their own levels.

The PlayStation 3-only DIY platformer/world creation game is set for release in Europe on October 28, and we're still waiting for an official release date in the US.

A stress test is completely different than a public beta. Please learn something, anything, about video games before writing this kind of ****. Please.
