Character-wise, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga overflows with what seems like endless alternatives. Several new playable characters will be introduced for the first time, including junkyard-roaming Watto, trouble-making Boss Nass plus many more. A total of one hundred and sixty characters in all become available over the course of the game – and that doesn't even count the ones players build in the Character Customizer. Here, they build whacked-out creatures of all sorts, mixing items from both trilogies for the first time. Imagine building a fighter with the red-colored head of Darth Maul, the body of Yoda, and the legs of C-3PO. Scary, ain't it?
Star Wars' cast wasn't the only thing juiced-up for Complete Saga. Players can also discover new power-ups and Force-rendered abilities, being able to build vehicles from scratch and then hauling around in them. An all-new Challenge Mode introduces several new competitive components in the game; combating against hordes of Stormtroopers or enemy droids in an enclosed space. No word yet on how many actual Challenges will be included, but expect a pretty hefty count.
These will add on to the already vast Story Mode, where players can retrace their actions through all six chapters of the Saga. Throughout the game, they can locate hidden items behind doors (which can only be opened by certain people) or through unforeseen walkways. For the fun of it, they can also kill off characters that annoy them. (Who doesn't want to wipe out Lego Jar-Jar? He should've just kept his trap shut.) Last but not least, Travellers Tales will be throwing in a new video retrospective called "The Building of Lego Star Wars", looking back at the conception of the hit series.
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga could've been just another quickly-made bankable game, but it really looks like Travellers Tales put a lot of effort into making it the best title in the series to date. Unless development gets taken over by angry Gungans and vengeful Ewoks, don't expect this Force to dwindle in any way. Come back to GameDaily for the full review come November.
