Fans of Lego Star Wars, Lego Batman and Lego Indiana Jones are going to get a new challenge later this year with Lego Rock Band. TT Games, the developer of the award-winning games, in partnership with Rock Band developer Harmonix is already working on the new family friendly music experience.
Bring new meaning to "Build a Band and Rock the Universe," Lego Rock Band players will get to customize their band members, entourage, roadies, managers and crew from minifigures. Venues for the game will also be created using Lego blocks and take place in stadiums and in fantasy locations beyond Earth. Rock Band players, nervous that they'll have to buy more peripherals, can rest easy as the game will work with their already existing equipment.
While the game promises to stick with the humor that the Lego games have brought the video game universe, Lego Rock Band's list of tracks lists a few chart-topping songs that are suitable for younger players.
Blur "Song 2"
Carl Douglas "Kung Fu Fighting"
Europe "The Final Countdown"
Good Charlotte "Boys and Girls"
Pink "So What"
"We're thrilled to offer another LEGO branded gaming experience that will deliver humorous and social play for families and friends," said Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, Vice President, the LEGO Group. "LEGO Rock Band is built around the same values of imagination and family-friendly creative role play that is present in other LEGO videogames. It will deliver innovative new elements of game play that complement the fun of the Rock Band experience."
Lego Rock Band for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS is due to release later in 2009. So far, no word on whether the game will support non-family music or if there will be Lego-themed guitar and drum peripherals.
