As part of Time Warner's overall fourth quarter and full-year earnings report, Warner Bros. Entertainment revealed that its revenues slipped two percent during 2008 to $11.4 billion, thanks to fewer film releases, softening DVD sales, and lower television licensing fees. Warner Bros. noted, however, that these decreases were partially offset by the success of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE).
In particular, Warner Bros. cited the video game revenues generated by Lego Batman and Lego Indiana Jones. The Batman game sold over 551,000 copies in the U.S. during its first month, while Lego Indiana Jones sold through more than 1.1 million units during the June period last year.
Warner Bros. has a wealth of IP that could potentially be "Lego-ized" and, of course, the Lego brand itself is quite strong. In fact, developer TT Games today announced a new Lego video game, Lego Battles, not tied into any movie, but based on classic Lego themes.
