Left 4 Dead Review (PC)

From the creators of Half-Life comes this shotgun blasting, zombie smashing shooter.

by Chris Buffa on Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Zombies run wild in Left 4 Dead, a gory first person shooter that challenges you to survive hordes of flesh eaters. You and three other players, either human or computer controlled, explore four post apocalyptic environments where teamwork makes the difference between life and death. Armed with shotguns, assault rifles and a few med packs, you'll withstand the onslaught by healing your comrades, rescuing them and watching each other's backs. Although we zipped through the four "movies" in less than five hours, we can't stop playing co-operatively with friends via online play and competing against others in the thrilling Survivors vs. Infected, a four-on-four multiplayer mode where monsters attempt to slaughter their gun-wielding adversaries. Shot-gunning hundreds of zombies and watching their heads and limbs explode rarely gets old, especially after a long day at work. Whether or not you should purchase the game, however, may depend on your platform of choice. PC users can snag it for less than $50, while Xbox 360 owners need to shell out $60 for a game that, while incredibly addictive, has a handful of options. So while it's short on content, Left 4 Dead's frantic blasting makes it one of the year's coolest horror games.

Left 4 Dead is a first-person co-operative shooter in which you play as one of up to four people (called "Survivors"), luckily immune to the virus that's sending most of the population mad, pitched against an endless horde of infected. (Screenshot 1 of 4)

i think 8 is good from these guys. they give brutally low scores to games. especially these days. i*****ame is good, it's good. i don't see how deducting 2 points from a score for a game that only lasts a few hours and only has a handful of content is biased or narrowminded. it's truthful if anything.

i think this game is way too repetitive. i can play for one campaign but then as soon as that ends if i start another im bored out of my mind. its just kill ombies get to a checkpoint, and just do that over and over. i dont like that, but many others do so i guess the rating fits.

Nothing wrong with short games! see Casebook as an example, or CoD 5.

Uhhhh....No. Bring it to a nine and we are square. Sure the maps are limited but the re-playability is what keeps us playing the game again and again. In addition, I would like your job, for I am better at this than you.

Why must you sorry excuses for game reviewers do this? Take an excellent game like this (also MGS4) and bring down its average just so you can get attention. Please, either stop reviewing games and turn this site into a news only game site or get a new editor seeing how all the editors you claim to have can not all be so narrowminded.
