Atari's ancient and addictive Marble Madness dazzles players with simple yet addictive marble-maneuvering gameplay. Konami decided to take this concept and roll with it for its latest Nintendo Wii game, Kororinpa: Marble Mania.
Designed by the talented team at Hudson Soft, Kororinpa throws players into challenges similar in nature to Marble Madness. Players navigate a marble through a number of multifaceted mazes, attempting to reach a goal before time expires. Instead of controlling the marble, they move the world surrounding it. This requires tilting, twisting, and even flipping the mazes around, so the marble won't lose pace.
The beginning stages take players through the basics. Wielding the Wii remote in hand, certain movements dictate which way the maze goes. However, obstacles appear the further they progress. These impediments vary depending on the world, such as trees popping up in the forest level and street obstructions in the big city.
Another inclusion in the game comes in the form of collectible crystals. Some require very little effort to snag. Others, however, sit in hard to reach areas, forcing the player to use his or her thinking cap to conceive some way of rolling up and grabbing it. The more crystals gathered over the course of a level, the better scoring bonuses become. Unlockable goodies in Kororinpa include trophies (for a virtual trophy room), bonus marbles and special hidden levels. These should test even the most efficient marble-rolling maniacs.
