Kingdom Hearts Ships 4 Million Copies (GBA)

The acclaimed Disney/Square Enix crossover title continues to grow in popularity...

Square Enix and Disney Interactive announced today that Kingdom Hearts for the PS2 has shipped 4 million units worldwide. Broken up by region, more than 2 million units have shipped in North America, 1.23 million units in Japan, and 820,000 units in PAL territories.

"Kingdom Hearts continues to capture the imagination of gamers and proves to be a must-have title for PlayStation 2 fans around the world," said Graham Hopper, SVP and General Manager, Buena Vista Games. "We would like to congratulate the entire Kingdom Hearts team on yet another impressive milestone."

"The unique blend of Disney characters and worlds in a Square Enix style gameplay seen in Kingdom Hearts resulted in one remarkable game. We couldn't be happier with the results," said Jun Iwasaki, president and CEO, Square Enix U.S.A., Inc.

Kingdom Hearts is a story about Sora, a 14 year old boy searching for his lost friends across several Disney worlds. It shipped in North America on September 17th 2002. Square Enix is currently hard at work on two sequels, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for the GBA due out later this year and Kingdom Hearts II for the PS2, which will probably release sometime in 2005.
