Honeycomb Beat should've been a puzzle game fused with music, where people complete challenges and alter the soundtrack. Instead, developer Hudson Soft pumped out a generic and boring DS game where the concept of challenge gets squashed by moronic trial and error.

In the game, players tap hexagons on the DS' bottom screen, the goal to turn them all white and make them disappear in a limited number of turns. While not a terrible concept, the developers allow players to hit restart at any moment, thus eliminating the challenge.

The presentation also fails to thrill, as it involves simplistic light shows, static backgrounds (space, flowers, random patterns) and uninspired music. On top of this, the game lacks a multiplayer mode, thus making it a single player only affair.

On the positive side, Evolution Mode offers some enjoyment. Rows of hexagons slowly move up the screen, and gamers eliminate them before they reach the top. Haphazardly tapping the screen achieves limited success, but for the most part, players must act quickly and actually think.

Nevertheless, Honeycomb Beat won't hold any gamer's attention for more than an hour, a generous estimate. Gamers hungering for a quality puzzle experience get Tetris DS, Meteos and Pokemon Trozei!

Final Score: 3 (out of 10)
