During this week's Tokyo Game Show, Microsoft officially announced that the Flood will appear in its Xbox 360 real-time strategy game, Halo Wars. The parasitic aliens, first introduced in the original Halo: Combat Evolved, seek to infect the entire universe and transform its hosts into disgusting zombie-like monsters.

Create and evolve life, establish tribes, build civilizations, sculpt entire worlds and explore a universe created by other gamers. Spore gives players a wealth of creative tools to customize nearly every aspect of their universe: creatures, vehicles, buildings, and even UFOs. Players can then seamlessly share their creations with the world or explore infinite new galaxies created by other gamers. (Screenshot 1 of 112)

At this point, we don't know what role the Flood will play in the game. It's either part of the environment, much like the random creatures roaming the battlefields, or a playable race. If playable, it'd be sweet to overtake and infect opposing units, thereby transforming them into Flood creatures. We'll give you the details as soon as Microsoft reveals new information.

Halo Wars debuts sometime in 2009.
