Given the one million download success of the Heroic Map Pack for Halo 3, this morning's announcement that a new three multiplayer map pack will arrive on April 15 comes as no surprise.

Named the Legendary Map pack, the Xbox Live downloadable content will sell for 800 points and feature the new Ghost Town and Avalanche maps along with one additional map that Microsoft is keeping secret.

Just one of four shots that showcase Avalanche. Click to see three shots of the green colored Ghost Town Map too.

Ghost Town is described as "a battle-scarred maze of narrow passages and dangerous ruins outside the once-prosperous city of Voi." Offering a mix of ground combat and rooftop warfare atop semi-collapsed buildings, Bungie and Microsoft say that the Ghost Town is a mid-sized map that's best suited for Team Slayer mode events.

Avalanche represents the evolution of the popular Sidewinder map from the original Halo. Focused on vehicular combat, the evolved gameplay of the map offers new vehicle variations and new exteriors that take advantage of the more powerful game. And fans will be happy to see the return of the air combat favorite, Hornet.

Details regarding the third map will be unveiled on the Bungie.net site at a later date but a press release did whet our appetites by saying, "fans of smaller Slayer maps, it's time to get excited."

With 7.3 million copies of Halo 3 currently in rotation and over one million players enjoying the last map pack, the future certainly looks bright and deadly for multiplayer fans.
