Activision's latest portable music-rhythm game, Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits, brings 28 new songs to the DS. Straight from the pros, here are five tips to help you on your way to rock stardom.

1. Your fans determine your future.

Check your in-game PDA to read comments from your fan base and to see which Fan Requests are still pending. Completing Fan Requests in Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits earns you even more fans: the more fans you acquire, the more of a rock star you'll become. You may even become a big enough rock star to be invited to play in venues all over the world! By completing Fan Requests in one or two songs, you can earn enough fans to advance, but you can earn bonus fans if you complete Fan Requests in all of the songs in a venue.

2. Fans demand top quality.

The Fan Request system in Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits is nothing to joke about! There are some seriously wacky and challenging requests out there, so here are some helpful hints: The Hyper Speed request causes notes to come down the highway at a significantly higher rate than normal, so it's best to get a lot of practice on the song in the normal mode first. Look out for Bomb Notes! They look different than normal notes and will explode when you play them. It's best to just let them pass by.

3. Share the fun.

Have a friend with Guitar Hero: On Tour or Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades? Excellent! You can play any song from any of the three Guitar Hero On Tour games together with the innovative song-sharing feature. With Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits and its two predecessors, you have access to more than 75 rockin' tunes.

4. Jump into the action.

In a rush? Want to play your favorite track right out of the box? No problem! In Quickplay mode you can jump right into any song of your choice without having to build your fan base and become a true rock star. In the career mode in Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits, all of the songs are unlocked in order of the easiest to hardest, so you can get your hands on the hardest song right away in Quickplay.

5. Master the guitar.

As you play Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits, you will learn techniques that will advance your Guitar Hero skills, but we have a few tips for you right away: You can rapidly strum back and forth to more precisely hit a series of notes – no need to strum just up or down. You can also try using the Guitar Hero Guitar Grip strap in a different way to really master the tricky songs. Our personal favorite is to loop just the thumb through the strap!
