The game formerly known as Guitar Hero Greatest Hits has been renamed Guitar Hero Smash Hits. Greatest Hits was apparently a working title and the marketing crew at Red Octane decided to go with 'Smash.' We're guessing it leaves more room for additional 'Smash' hit collections or a 'Greatest Hits' collection that also includes songs from World Tour, Metallica, etc.

As announced previously, the game will include 48 tracks from Guitar Hero I, II, II and Guitar Hero Encore Rocks the '80s. The game will arrive in June on 360, PlayStation 3 (both for $60), Wii ($40) and PlayStation 2 ($30).

The track list so far will include the following, some of them available to play with an entire band for the first time.

* "Barracuda" by Heart
* "I Love Rock N Roll" by Joan Jett and The Blackhearts
* "I Wanna Rock" by Twisted Sister
* "Killer Queen" by Queen
* "Killing in the Name" by Rage Against The Machine
* "Nothin' But A Good Time" by Poison
* "Them Bones" by Alice in Chains
* "Through the Fire and Flames" by Dragonforce

There's been a lot of noise about Guitar Hero and Rock Band being a fad -- and a fad that's on its way out. Case in point: we went to the Circuit City out-of-business sale and found stacks of Guitar Hero games standing untouched.

With the seemingly endless iterations of Guitar Hero/Rock Band, we admit we're suffering from a little rock 'n' rhythm game fatigue. Do you still wanna rock?
