About five weeks ago, a stroll through Walmart stopped when we saw a Guitar Hero III game and guitar box for Xbox 360 going for a mere $50. Since it was older, it should get cheaper, right? Then we saw the box next to it, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (game and wireless guitar) also being sold for $50. We wondered what was up.
Then today, GameStop.com confused us more by opened the doors to its Music Blowout Sale. Claiming that after being "entombed in the depths of our warehouse," many of the boxes are damaged but their contents are new. The promotion including the original Rock Band kit, Rock Band 2 kit, Guitar Hero 2 with guitar, Guitar Hero III with guitar, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and Guitar Hero: World Tour (Band Kit or Guitar Kit) are selling for as low as $29.99 and all of the products in the promotion come with free 3-day ground shipping. If you're new to the music game phenomenon, you can get a complete guitar, microphone and drum kit for $94.99... 50% off its normal price. Of course, while supplies last.
Still, we have to wonder... might this be the second indication that sales of music games might be going south or are retailers just getting ready for the next wave of games?
