Activision Publicly Calls Out Gibson's Patent Suit (PC)

Saying that the "claims are disingenuous and lack any justification" Activision is decrying the suit that Gibson has filed and implying it may be revenge for a dissolved partnership.

Today, Activision issued an official corporate statement pertaining to the lawsuit filed by Gibson Guitar Corporation. The sentiment echoes that of Activision general counsel George Rose at the time, who disagreed vehemently with the suit. It is again worth noting that Gibson has worked collaboratively on the Guitar Hero franchise since its inception more than two years ago.

"Gibson's lawsuit is a transparent end run around an impartial court that Activision asked on March 11 to rule on patent assertions that Gibson knows have no merit," reads Activision's statement. "Our Guitar Hero retailing partners have done nothing wrong. We will confront this and any other efforts by Gibson to wrongfully interfere with Activision's relationship with its customers and its consumers."

"As Activision noted in its filing, Gibson waited three years to make its patent allegations, and only did so after it became clear that Activision was not interested in renewing its marketing and support agreement with Gibson," continues the statement. "Activision continues to believe that Gibson's claims are disingenuous and lack any justification."

In related news, Harmonix and Activision are currently negotiating over Guitar Hero royalty payments.
