Yesterday we reported on Microsoft's GTA IV related stats in the U.K. The company claimed that Rockstar's entertainment record setting title drove 360 hardware sales in the region up 125 percent. Today, Microsoft revealed (via the Gamerscore blog) that the game's launch in the U.S. drove 360 console sales up 54 percent week-over-week.

Citing retailer data, Microsoft said that 60 percent of all GTA IV sales in the first week were the Xbox 360 version. And 40 percent of new consoles sold were purchased with a copy of GTA IV, indicating a strong attach rate.

In the first week, more than 2.3 million people played the game on Xbox Live, and during the weekend the Xbox Live service reached one million concurrent users as a result. Additionally, more than 12 million achievements worth over 100 million gamerscore points have been unlocked in GTA IV, and the game has set a new record for time played, with the average gamer spending more than four hours playing the game on Live in the first week.
