With the recent release of Gran Turismo 4 in Japan, many are starting to wonder what car they will purchase first, and how they will tackle the game. We're going to show you how you can tackle the game and build a garage that even Bill Gates couldn't afford.
While some prefer to get down and dirty and start from scratch, we have discovered that it is all too possible to tackle GT4 in a smooth fashion without spending money (unless you want to). GT4 was laid out in such a manner that you can progress throughout the game spending as little money as possible. There are reasons for this, but we won't spoil any of the fun.
In a nut shell, this method is very simple. Acquire a license, win a car, and use it to win races, rinse and repeat. So why the need for a guide? Well, you can do it the easy way, or the hard way...we'd like to think you are looking for the easy way.
In the beginning stages, you have 1,000,000 cr., which will be the equivalent to 10,000 cr. in the North American release. The first thing to do once you start up your game is ensure that if you did play GT3, your save is present on the memory card. You can import money from your save, up to 10,000,000 cr. (100,000 cr. in US build). This will ensure that should you need to purchase any upgrades to your prize cars, the money is there to throw around freely.
After importing all your hard earned cash, we're sure you will be eager to buy the first car in sight. Hold off and go to the License Center. Here you will get to drive a plethora of cars, as well as win them. With 16 tests, it surely isn't a fly by night operation, however, you will earn a prize car at the end, as well as gain access to other races. In order to best advance in the game, you should earn each license up to International A. This will allow you to partake in any of the currently available races, as well as get you a nifty prize car, a Nismo 270R.
After you have acquired the IA license, and you are in your 270R, head over to the Japanese Hall and enter the All Japan Cup. Winning the All Japan Cup will earn you the Nissan Fairlady Z Concept LM Race Car. Before you hop in your new speed demon, there are two more races you will want to participate in. Head over to the Special Condition Hall, and enter in both the Costa Di Amalfi (easy), and the Tsubuka Circuit (easy). These races yield the Toyota RSC Rally Car and the Mazda RX-8 Concept 2001, respectively.
By now you should have a nice selection of cars building. You will want to hop into your RX-8 Concept and run over to either the FR Challenge, or the RX-8 Cup. The RX-8 cup is the more valuable of the two races, as you can win yet another LM race car, the RX-8 LM Race Car Concept. This can be used to win the NA Tuned races in the beginners hall.
After completing the NA Tuned race, you will be rewarded with a nice piece of Type-R greatness, the '01 NSX-R Concept. Using this big bad tuned machine, you will be able to win both the Type-R meet in the Honda Manufacturer Hall, and the MR Challenge in the beginners hall. Next you can take your Pontiac Sunfire GXP Concept that you won during your B license test to the FF Challenge in the beginners hall. Win this race and you will receive the Altenza Concept car.
After this, you will want to head over to the Mission Hall. While you don't earn a lot of cars here, this is an amazing place to earn money, as well as a nice learning experience and one of the most enjoyable halls at that. Winning the first 20 races in the Mission Hall will earn you the DMC Delorean and the Jay Leno Tank Car respectively.
Now that you are off to a good start, continue to work this trend throughout a nice portion of the game. This will allow you to save up as much money as possible, and buy and tune all of the cars you wish, while still driving many cars that you never paid for. Later in the game you may find yourself buying the occasional car in order to complete a race, however if you follow these steps, and stick with them, that shouldn't be a problem as you will have enough money to do everything you want.
