During Microsoft's E3 press conference, Square Enix revealed that it was bringing the previously PS3-exclusive role-playing game Final Fantasy XIII to Xbox 360. Shortly after revealing a new trailer for the game (which will be available soon here at GameDaily.com), Yoshinori Kitase and Shinji Hashimoto of Square Enix held their own press conference to unearth new details about the game.

When asked about why the game was no longer an exclusive to the PlayStation 3 platform, the execs insisted it was all a matter of hardware simplicity. The company already has a couple of other Xbox 360 titles in development, including Infinity Undiscovered (slated for release in a couple of months) and The Last Remnant. They didn't go into any further technical details, explaining that Xbox Live support, exclusive content and disc format were yet "to be determined."

Another PS3 exclusive bites the dust... and Microsoft benefits.

The reps did confirm, however, that both versions of Final Fantasy XIII would be shipping simultaneously for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A specific date hasn't been given yet, but we're guessing that the company will have it ready around summer/fall 2009. The game will be released for U.S. and European markets on both platforms, although Square has yet to unveil the Xbox 360 version for Japanese release. (It will probably be announced following the international release of Infinity Undiscovered.)

One other note -- the game utilizes a system revolving around "Crystal Tools," making the battles appear more life-like than in previous Final Fantasy games. Some brief gameplay footage was shown in the press conference trailer, although not nearly enough to determine what makes the ATB battle system click. We asked for more information on it, but the reps weren't ready to reveal it just yet. Maybe over the course of this week, we can get some information.

Look for more information over the week as we continue our exhaustive E3 coverage.
