I'm sure a lot of you have already gone to see the movie Fantastic Four, and now it's clubberin' time to take the game on the go for the Game Boy Advance. The game is based on the plot of the film, where you take control of Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and The Thing as they battle evil forces and eventually find themselves pitted against Doctor Doom.
We recently took a look at the game for consoles, but the portable version seems to fare somewhat better. That's because it uses an isometric view that's a little less confusing than the console version, allowing you to get a better view of enemies that are all around you. Throughout the game, you'll be able to shift between the four heroes at any time, and even fight alongside them with CPU-controlled assistance. It really comes in handy in a bind, especially if you're low on energy.
The game contains some run-of-the-mill beat-em-up gameplay, but it surprisingly works well for this game. Each character has their own attacks and special moves, with Thing smashing things to bit and Human Torch setting things ablaze quite easily. The graphics and sound are typical at best but do a good job of replicating the formula from the movie. The game would've benefitted from more multiplayer support and maybe a couple of extra quirks from the film itself, but it's still enjoyable.
Fantastic Four manages to stick to its roots and, as a result, wins the day with good ol' fashioned action and non-stop comic book action, like the film itself. Check it out.
