It's done. Now gamers must endure the long wait until its end of October release.

Bethesda Softworks announced on Thursday that Fallout 3, its upcoming and highly anticipated game has gone gold. The game will release in North America on October 28, Europe and Australia on October 30 and in the UK on Oct. 31. The game will release for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3. Given Bethesda's work on creating the popular Elder Scrolls series, expectations for Fallout 3 are very high.

"Fallout 3 has been the biggest project we've ever undertaken," said Todd Howard, game director for Fallout 3. "It's been a long journey and we're really happy with how it turned out. We can't wait for everyone to get a chance to play it."

Fallout 3 occurs in a post-nuclear version of Washington, DC called the Capital Wasteland. After 200 years of humans living in specially created bunkers, one adventurer leaves the safety of Bunker 101 on a quest to find his father. But the Wasteland has not been kind to the outside dwellers as they've been mutated into ghoulish beings, savage dogs and even discovered new faiths (like one where the faithful worship a live nuke).
