Update: Bethesda has fixed the issue and the new Fallout DLC, The Pitt, is again available on the Xbox Live Marketplace for download. Users who had the glitched version should delete the file from their hard drives and then redownload (Xbox lets you redownload any files you've previously bought).
Update (3/25/09): A representative from Bethesda Softworks replied to a GameDaily inquiry and let us know that the team was doing final checks on the fixed version of The Pitt and expect that fix to be released sometime today.
Gamers anxiously awaiting the newest Fallout 3 episode, The Pitt, will have a wait a while longer; those who got up early to download the new $10 DLC were met with glitches and freezes, prompting Bethesda and Microsoft to remove the content from Xbox Live until the issue is resolved. BigDownload.com reports that the PC version of the patch is unaffected.
From Bethesda's official blog:
"We are continuing to look into the issues people are experiencing with The Pitt for Xbox 360. As of now it looks like the file for the English version on Xbox Live was somehow corrupted. We are currently working with Microsoft to remove the existing file off of Live to prevent any further downloads. Our plan is to replace it with a new file as soon as possible. We hope to have another update for you shortly."
The Pitt is the second of three announced Xbox-360 exclusive Fallout 3 add-ons, following January's Operation: Anchorage. The episode, slated to run 4-5 hours, takes place in the remains of Pittsburgh and casts the player as a new character in a new story where he'll come between slave and their masters while trying to find the cure for the mutations that plague the post-nuclear lands. A third DLC, Broken Steel, is due in late April or May of this year.

Included in Fallout 3 is an expansive world, unique combat, shockingly realistic visuals, tons of player choice, and an incredible cast of dynamic characters. Sorry koala if you mistook the message. I have no hatred. I am simply tired of silly fanboys who only think in terms of "Sony sucks" or "Microsoft sucks" with no regard to the good things to be found in most systems. Statements such as Caanimal's "I am glad I didn't get the chance to get it" are idiotic. Why, in any world, would a small delay make me happy that I didn't get a chance to play a great piece of gaming? Caanimal's reason is simply that he has the same old "I hate microsoft and by extension XBOX" attitude. He is probably feeling disappointed by Sony (and he should be) and needs to take it out in some way. As for me.... taking a few extra minutes to write a thorough explanation of my rational isn't having a conversation with myself. I have been reading posts around here for some time and it seems very few people actually try to back up their thoughts. Too often nowadays people online resort to confusing, truncated diatribes that really do nothing to make a point. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough in my response? But I have no regrets in trying to be more communicative. Seriously...what's the big deal in taking the whole two or three extra minutes to write a bit more? Seems fine to me. Just like it doesn't really hurt me to use proper english grammar and avoid online abbreviations for proper words. Once again, no hate though. I was probably a bit harsh and apologize for that. My purpose is to point out when people are being BLINDLY supportive or negative about ANY system. I love all good games and systems. I am not afraid to admit that Microsoft is doing a far better job though. Admitting that also would never make me "glad to miss out on DLC" were I a dedicated Sony fan. it makes no sense and people should begin to point these things out. The "Fanboy" debates need to end. My view is that I find games and features on all systems which are enjoyable. Microsoft is doing the best job when all factors are included. I loved PS2 but Sony has disappointed me too. Should 360 fail in the future and their content quality begin to fall then I would admit that and be HAPPY to play good content on whatever other system manages to do it right. See? No hatred! I don't even mind your criticism...it gives me the chance to explain my view. This is a conversation between us and not by myself. Caanimal was welcome to respond too...he simply didn't (or hasn't) yet. Finally, i am sorry if my answers sound egotistical or something...but I find it a major failing of our society that people have come to regard fully written and more thorough posts in that light. I mean no offense but, I will not "short change" the english language in that way... so my answers might be a bit longer than most. At least any readers out there will know where i am coming from though. Cheers! And thank you for taking the time to post a reply.
thetorglordxx wtf u say they dont got a life u just started a convo wit yourself for a good five min did u really have to make a letter describing ur hatred????
Hey caanimal! Guess what? It's up and running already! Starting it now! Keep laughing and I hope you are still glad you can't have it. I can't believe someone would be so idiotic as to say something like that...I mean wow! What's wrong with you? Anyway...stay happy. I'll simply have to live with your pity being directed at all the poor suffering fools who had to wait a whole 24 hours for some good DLC! Oh the horror! How did I live through it?
Wow Caanimal...all I can say... is your life really that sad? I mean...so what? Are you really so unhappy that you have to try and create an issue where none exists? You really think this effects any of us at all? What problems are you talking about? Ready for some hard truth? A file was corrupted...big deal. It happens. It's a small delay in what looks to be a great piece of content. We'll have it in a few days and I will be playing it and enjoying it just like I have enjoyed all the other exclusive content XBOX Live has provided. Oh no! It took a few extra days! OMG! My life is over! Get real... Want to know how this effects me? I went to get the download...it wasn't there. I figured there was a problem and it would be up soon enough. I went and played another great game instead and browsed for some unique games on Live Arcade (tons of those you know). That's it. Didn't bother me and I'll still be getting it very soon. Meanwhile, you can still go back to being "mildly annoyed" once I am playing it. Or playing other exclusives...or waiting for the debut of FFXIII! And for the record...in case any fanboys want to poke fun... I owned both a PSOne and PS2. XBOX looked better when it came out so I got one. I have also recently bought a PS3. The Wii is unfortunately not worth the time...sorry fanboys (I have played it at friend's). So, no I am not a fanboy and only make decisions based on quantity and quality of service. Simply put...go and hate Microsoft all you want. But, they are putting out a better console in almost all respects. The only thing the PS3 really has going for it is slightly better graphics. But not good enough that I look at Fallout 3 or Gears 2 and can't stand to look at them! MGS4 and LBP are great but, there simply aren't enough unique quality titles. I can buy a Blu Ray and 360 seperately for less than the PS3. And nothing competes with XBOXLive. Finally...Microsoft is getting tons of exclusive DLC. See what I mean? I own both and I tell my friends who can only afford one console to get the 360. It's the better choice. I have a friend who WORKS for Sony and he admits they have completely dropped the ball this generation and they will not catch up. You are only fooling yourself to think otherwise. I think I will go and check for the DLC again today. I'll play GTA4 Lost and Damned if it isn't ready yet. I will think about how happy you are not to get it once it is up and I am fighting in the Pitt arena with the new "axe blade" melee weapon (can't remember the exact name). Have fun!
