The same goes for the disappointing split screen multiplayer mode. Sony's PlayStation 3 game Resistance: Fall of Man features a 40 person online multiplayer mode, and thousands enjoy Microsoft's Xbox 360 game Gears of War and its eight person online battles on a daily basis. Yet despite these advancements in technology, Nintendo keeps its user base in the dark ages by offering offline racing for just two players. Even Wave Race Blue Storm -- a five-year old game-- comes with a four-person split screen multiplayer mode.

Unfortunately, the disappointment continues with Excite Truck's graphics. The tropical Fiji paradise and lush Canadian wilderness would have looked outstanding had the game been released several years ago. Nintendo should have beefed things up by dropping some more attractive scenery into the mix, but most of the courses are about as plain looking as an undressed turkey sandwich.

Mario & company's imaginations were busy dreaming up big things for the Wii, but none of these visions involved Excite Truck. While the game stands out as one of the system's more entertaining games, its lack of features (four "cups", three challenges), unimaginative track design, ten trucks, and subsequently steep $49.99 price tag make it a must rent and nothing more.
