Hover board controls also bring with them several issues, the most infuriating of which assigns multiple functions to the analog stick. Tapping the left analog in a direction activates a maneuver, such as quickly dashing to the left or right. However, the game occasionally misinterprets a brief steering correction as a maneuver, resulting in unwanted behavior. Worse, the left analog stick controls both steering and the angle the hover board faces depending on its speed, meaning that a downwards motion at the wrong time leaves players doing back flips instead of heading in the proper direction.

As cool as mechs on hover boards may sound, the in-air mech duels only combine the problems of the game's combat and hover boarding sections. As with combat, success lies with locking onto a foe and hammering those attack buttons. However, the hover boarding element introduces new frustrations, as foes can more easily dodge the long-range missiles. Thus, victory relies on close-range proximity attacks, requiring players to target a foe, use the hover board's problematic controls to draw close to a constantly moving opponent, hit Circle in their general area and hope for the command to take effect. When it works, this brings players to an event in which properly timed presses of Circle damage an opponent, but it often requires multiple attempts to activate.

Despite the differing game play, at least one element remains shared between the various situations and scenarios of Eureka Seven Vol. 2: boredom. With no real skill required to complete the simple challenges, most gamers will breeze through the dull segments given enough time and button mashing, leaving them to question the point in repeating those same bits of play over and over again.

Lacking any excitement to entice further play, the playable portions of Eureka Seven Vol. 2: The New Vision end up no more appealing than its frequent dull cutscenes.

Final Score: 4 (out of 10)
