Square Enix has recently confirmed that Dragon Quest VIII will be coming to the US. The game is currently on Square Enix's "Game Release Dates" on their official web page. A specific release date for Dragon Quest VIII in North America is still forthcoming, and Square Enix has yet to decide whether or not the game is coming to Europe at all.

The Dragon Quest series is among the most successful video game franchises in Japan. The main series had gone on to sell millions of copies (including 3.1 million for Dragon Quest VIII) and has spawned a number of spin off titles and remakes. Heretofore, the series has not had the same sort of success in North America, where it has been titled "Dragon Warrior". However, the latest Level 5 developed version of the series is listed as Dragon Quest VIII not Dragon Warrior VIII on Square Enix's American web page, perhaps signaling an end to the localizing tradition.
