The Digimon universe continues to roll on, following up on the releases of some physical combat and racing games with a new adventure title. Digimon World 4 faithfully captures the Digimon universe into a sprawling battle-filled adventure with tons of enemies to defeat and different Digimon characters to choose from, but it seems to be lacking that certain something to make it real memorable.
The game allows you to take on the journey on your own or inviting three of your friends to help you out, and the multiplayer route is definitely more recommended. The reason for this is that the enemies featured in Digimon World 4 are powerful, and can massively take away your energy if you fight them on your own. With friends, however, the game is more fun, offering some competitive edges and cooperation elements all in one as you fight alongside each other to complete the journey.
The quest isn't entirely enjoyable, as there's a lot of back-tracking involved to find crucial items like ID cards and power-ups that are required in order to Digi-volve yourself into a stronger being. Also, it's noticeable that some enemies can be a real pain, reappearing in spots just when you think you've defeated them for good. And if you're not really a fan of Digimon, this game isn't really going to change your mind, as it sticks closely to its theme, right down to the game's mediocre graphics and sounds. Nothing really stands out here.
If you are a fan, however, you might want to give it a look. However, be advised that going the journey alone may be a bit frustrating. My advice is to get together some of your friends to fight alongside you, as the game provides better advantage with a full party. Digimon World 4 isn't necessarily a must-have, but, with four players along for the ride, it does provide some decent Digi-thrills.
