At this past years E3 event Capcom came with a surprise. Although it was leaked a few weeks early within the pages of PlayStation Magazine, the world-wide official announcement of Devil May Cry 3 came at E3. As you would expect, people are excited and ecstatic that they can once again take control of Dante and continue the Devil May Cry story. Even better news is the fact that this game has been in development for quite some time, and will be released exclusively on the PS2 this winter.
Devil May Cry 3 is actually a prequel to the original Devil May Cry game. The story will go into detail, and further explain how Dante became what he was in the original game. With this game Capcom promises to clear up his "cloudy past". Beginning the game you will even find that Dante doesn't know he has incredible abilities. You will learn abilities and the reason behind them as you progress. More important to the Devil May Cry story is that it seems that the demon warrior Sparda did not have only one son that was possessed with supernatural powers. Devil May Cry 3 begins to unfold during a fateful clash between Sparda's twin sons, Dante and Virgil, who are divided by the divergence of their chosen paths. Capcom has also thrown two names out there to remember, Arkham and a female hunter named Lady, whose purpose is to kill all demons, including Dante.
Todd Thorson, director of marketing, Capcom USA said, "Devil May Cry 3 packs non-stop thrills and a captivating story line into one technologically advanced package. Action game fans are in for one hell of an experience."
Sure, this guy may be biased for the simple fact that he's the Marketing Director for the company that is making and publishing this game, but he also may be right. Devil May Cry 3 will keep the game-play elements that made people love the first two games, and build upon them for a more impressive experience. The most interesting new game-play element will allow players to customize their character's fighting style. Players can choose to make Dante a short-range, long range, defensive or evasive character.
Choosing to be an evasive character allows Dante to deftly dodge enemy attacks with speed and finesse by running up walls and doing gravity defying flips. Choosing a close-range character type allows Dante to take advantage of his sword. The long-range style lets Dante destroy enemies with his firearms. And choosing to be a defensive character will help Dante block and counter attack his enemies.
The combo system that was in place for the first two games will be very similar to what you'll see in Devil May Cry 3. This time around you will be able to equip Dante with up to four weapons that can be swapped at any time. This ability will give the player an opportunity to hit a wide range of combinations. The game also promises to have an enormous arsenal of weapons for Dante to have at his disposal including: handguns, powerful shotguns, "tricked out" guitars and much more.
The game graphics promise to have fully textured rich backgrounds utilizing 3D polygons as well as real time rendering for in game cut scenes and the intro movie. To top it off, the game will also support both Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II for home theater enthusiasts out there.
Devil May Cry 3 looks to be a very exciting, action packed game, with a very interesting story. Capcom was able to surprise their fans at E3 by not only announcing the game, but also announcing that it will be on store shelves in just a few months. Fans will be even more surprised at how good this one may turn out when it hits stores this Winter.
