Dead or Alive Creator Talks Pro Gaming
by John Gaudiosi on Thursday, August 02, 2007
Tomonobu Itagaki, the creator of Dead Or Alive, came to Los Angeles to witness the U.S. Finals of the Championship Gaming Series inaugural season between the Carolina Core and the Chicago Chimera. He also took some time to talk to the world's best DOA4 player, Carolina Core's Ryan "OffBear Ninja" Ward. Itagaki talked to GameDaily about the DOA games, American versus Japanese playing styles and pro gaming.
What is it like to see professional gamers competing on your DOA4 game on live TV?
Every player has great skill. Watching them playing DOA4 is pretty exciting.
Can you talk about pro gaming in Japan and Asia and how the Championship Gaming Series is doing compared to that?
The play styles of American and Japanese players look a little different. Japanese players' play style is more offensive.
What are your thoughts on meeting the best DOA game player in the US?
I have many opportunities to see Japanese players, but less to see American players. That's why I'm quite glad to see them at the CGS.
How do his skills compare to your own?
I played with 12 American players last night. They were very strong and I could only win one time.
What are your thoughts about female gamers getting a professional platform to play DOA4 in this league?
DOA's story is about girls that fight. I think it suits the game concept pretty well.
