Battle angels and demons in a post-apocalyptic Earth, where your only friend is your trusty horse.

Say what you will about the Catholic faith, but we've always loved the four horsemen, those ultimate bad asses that come to give mankind the business. So you can imagine our surprise when we laid our eyes on THQ's upcoming Darksiders: Wrath a War, a gorgeous looking third person hack-and-slash game that lets us play as one of those four horsemen. If you love dark, macabre environments and tons of action, this is one you won't want to miss.
In the game, you play as War, a horseman with a bad attitude and a thirst for destruction. As you explore an apocalypse ravaged Earth, you'll come in contact with both angels and demons, and although you're free to pick sides, you're encouraged to slaughter everyone using a plethora of weapons, from your razor sharp sword to a helicopter's chain gun. And for added dramatic effect, you'll be able to ride your trusty steer, Ruin, barreling across the desert firing at enemies, leaping hundreds of feet into the air and then mounting the beast, which seems to always appear out of nowhere.
In addition, you can also hop onto the backs of enemies and ride them, or grab onto flying creatures to navigate your way across a chasm. Of course, you're free to kill your foes any time, whether it involves cutting them in half or just filling them full of lead.
Your journey will take you through dilapidated streets, crumbling buildings, a desert wasteland and the Ash Lands, an entire city reduced to ash. You'll watch as gigantic angels and demons wage war in an old church, then go up against a humongous sandworm.
Furthermore, Darksiders lets you level up your character, augment your weaponry, find numerous items and solve puzzles to gain new abilities, so there's a very minor but solid role-playing element. Destructible environments, the option to collect souls and no loading doesn't hurt either.
THQ wouldn't hand us the controller, so for now, all we can say is Darksiders: Wrath of War has tons of potential. Not only does it have a wicked looking main character, but the combat, visuals and monsters look outstanding. Get ready to ride, hopefully sometime this year.
