Microsoft reiterated the continued success of the Xbox 360 on Monday in a press release, which pointed out that Spike TV's Video Game Award 2007 show selected BioShock as its "Game of the Year."

BioShock, available only on Xbox 360 and the Games for Windows platforms, also grabbed honors for "Best Original Score" and "Best Xbox 360 Game." Microsoft shared top position status with Halo 3, which took the awards for "Best Multiplayer Game" and "Most Addictive Game."

Given the five million copies sold status of Halo 3, many in the industry were shocked that BioShock (which sold more than 1.5 million copies) took the highest honors. Science fiction epic Mass Effect, also an Xbox 360 only game, took honors for "Best Role Playing Game." Crysis, a Games for Windows-only title, gained the "Best Graphics" Award.

While other games such as The Orange Box, Rock Band, The Simpsons, skate, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Madden NFL 08 and DiRT also exist on the Xbox 360 platform, considering that each game exists on all if not all the next generation consoles, it'd be difficult to claim these as successes for only Microsoft.
