The WGA Awards on Monday announced its inaugural nominations for outstanding achievement in video game writing, with Sierra Entertainment grabbing two of the five noms for its Crash of the Titans and World in Conflict.

Other nominees included D Publisher's Dead Head Fred, Electronic Arts' The Simpsons Game and Atari's The Witcher. A winner will be announced Feb. 9, when the WGA also reveals winners in film and TV categories.

"The WGA's inaugural video game writing award spotlights quality work by video game writers, raising their profiles and validating their contributions to this rapidly maturing medium," the WGA said.

To qualify, game scripts had to be published in the previous year for games released between Dec. 1, 2006, and Nov. 30, 2007. Non-WGA scripts were allied with writing credits and application for membership in the WGA's new-media caucus, but writers of source material were not eligible for consideration.
