Ringling Bros. bad, says PETA. Photo Courtesy Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey

Reports say PETA is striking again, this time taking aim at publisher Take-Two, who will soon be releasing a Nintendo Wii and DS game based on Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Find an excerpt from the letter below:

We've told Take-Two about Ringling Bros.' real-life, lengthy history of animal abuse and neglect and shown it undercover video footage of a standard industry training session, in which animal handlers used electric prods and bullhooks to gouge elephants in the most sensitive parts of their bodies.

Even though it knows that circuses are no fun for animals, Take-Two is still moving forward with its plan to create a Ringling Bros. Wii game. Please send a message to Take-Two CEO Ben Feder urging him to sever ties with Ringling Bros. Let him know that you'd rather play a game featuring a circus that does not beat animals for "entertainment."

This isn't the first time PETA's spouted off about video games. In November last year, the animal rights group released a video game parody of the popular Nintendo game series, Cooking Mama. The parody, called 'Cooking Mama Kills Animals' featured cooking lessons that included plucking feathers and removing a turkey's internal organs.

"We're having a bit of fun at Mama's expense, but there's nothing funny about the suffering endured by turkeys and other animals who are killed for food," PETA's Joel Bartlett said.

All of this finger-pointing doesn't come out of left field, however. As recently as March this year, Ringling Bros. has been on trial for elephant abuse.

As for the Ringling Bros. game, we're sure the show will go on; and PETA -- bless their bleeding hearts -- has probably ensured that more people will go buy this silly circus game to see what the controversy is all about.
